The Affordable House

Built in Mishawaka, Indiana, this house is designed to be affordable yet not out of place in the Mishawaka neighborhood. The raised porch and brick columns create a durable and dignified base for this modest home. This single-family house accommodates two bedrooms and one-and-a-half baths. The open dining and living rooms provide ample room for family entertainment.  This design also lends itself to future expansion in the basement.

During the 2021 Spring Semester, each student in the studio created a design for a small single-family residence. After making nine individual designs, we assembled into groups of three. The new groups synthesized the individual designs of each group member into a single design and created construction documents. I had the opportunity to work with Naomi Hernandez and Nayun Hong to create construction documents for our  design. A modified version of this group design is currently being built by Habitat for Humanity and will be completed in the spring of 2022.
